Greenway Medical Technologies relies on Updox’s Direct Messaging HISP for three ONC 2014 criteria
02/20/2013 – (Dublin, Ohio) Updox, the most rapidly adopted Practice Communications Management (PCM) system in the industry, today announced the Updox NHIN Direct Messaging platform was used by Greenway Medical Technologies during its successful complete certification of PrimeSUITE 2014 (17.0) against the ONC 2014 Edition criteria.
The Updox platform uses the national standards established by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology’s (ONC) Direct Project and operates as a Health Information Service Provider (HISP). The Updox HISP helps electronic health record (EHR) providers meet the Direct messaging requirements that are a part of the following criteria:
- 170.314(b)(1) – Transitions of care – receive, display and incorporate transition of care / referral summaries
- 170.314(b)(2) – Transitions of care – create and transmit transition of care / referral summaries
- 170.314(e)(1) – View, download, and transmit to 3rd party

Updox offers two options for EHR providers looking to partner with a HISP for certification. The first option allows EHRs to quickly integrate by creating a single sign on between their application and Updox, in which users simply launch a customized version of the Updox interface to send messages. A second option allows the EHR to control the user experience and engage the Updox Direct infrastructure through application programming interfaces (APIs). In addition, Updox offers an optional patient portal to assist with the Secure Messaging 170.314(e)(3) criteria.

The Updox Practice Communications Management (PCM) system enables medical practices to improve internal workflows by having a single interface to manage all patient and provider communications. Updox allows patients to interact with a practice via the web to schedule appointments, complete forms, make payments, securely message the doctor’s office and access their medical history, including lab results and continuity of care documents.
